Viva la Vida. Charlie Brown. Us Against the World. Happy Birthday to You. Mildred J. Speed of Sound. Besides gyrating on stage, implying sexual acts and briefly accompanying her dancers, she really just walked around, so naturally I was expecting to have her focus on her vocal abilities.
She sang all the songs in her nearly 2 hour set list, no lip synching, but there was very little effort in her voice. I follow her music solely based on what is played on the radio but given the chance to hear some of her other songs I did find a couple new favorites. My only real area of criticism would have to be towards the parents who brought their young children to the show, by young I mean under 7 years old. There were loads of little girls this age there. As a mother of a 5 year old girl myself I was a little shocked to see kids because of the nature of her songs.
She also spent the entire show barely dressed. Take the kids to Big Time Rush and leave the sexy pop stars to the more mature crowd. This is just my personal opinion. All in all the night was a blast. I was accompanied by my good friend Erin, who took all the photographs of the show for BSD, I danced my butt off, sang until my throat was dry and was so exhausted the next day that I was in bed by 6pm.
Everything you can hope for in a concert. Andrew Allen took the stage at the Middle East in Cambridge on Thursday night amongst deafening cheers and constant camera flashes.
Even though he was one of the three opening acts for a band called He is We, you would have thought everyone was there just to see him, in fact I am sure that most of them were. His set was a brief 45 minutes, that seemed even shorter to us listeners who were enjoying singing and dancing along to his mellow, west coast vibe.
Andrew got his start by basically lying to Carnival Cruise lines. Upon returning they sold their house, bought a mini van and set off on a Canadian Tour, Andrews home country, lasting two months. Andrew booked all his gigs by finding bars on Ukpubfinder. Andrew agreed. Some artists prefer to be in the studio and hate to go on tour. Andrew also said that he is blown away when fans ask him for autographs and pictures and he is always willing to oblige.
That was evident after Thursdays show when he stood at the merchandise booth and met with fans until the very end of the evening. When his first official cd is released, sometime in the near future I am told, I will be there to buy it.
As will many of the people who were in the crowd on Thursday night. I am very fortunate to be able to meet and listen to this artist before he takes off, and he will take off. Despite the fact that he is from Vancouver and a HUGE Canucks fan, currently sporting a full playoff beard, I have always been a Michael Buble fan and Tuesday night I finally got the chance to see him perform live. During the entire show I was completely amazed at how well he performs, slipping and sliding across the stage, tossing out beach balls, cracking jokes, engaging with the crowd and even walking through the floor seats to shake some hands as he sang.
