But the roughly 1,square-foot cabin survived and has been used in various ways since. In , considerable renovation was done. A concrete floor was poured in the kitchen, some interior paneling was installed, the brick fireplace was built and the flagstone patio was added to the front of the cabin.
The cabin went through another renovation in , according to the water district, and was then used for meetings and water district events. Now the water district must decide if another renovation is in order and what uses a newly revamped cabin might have.
Watershed education has been mentioned as a possible use, as well as a picnic area in front of the cabin. It represents a cultural memory of land use. And people generally love these old structures.

It takes off near a drinking fountain in the redwoods. This trail parallels the entrance road and goes all the way to the dam. Parking on the road near the country club is a good alternative to the entry road with its car traffic. Don't park at the club, as it is private property and you can get a ticket, and be mindful of all street signs. Several springs along the trail are flowing more than we expected. The heavy rains have apparently pumped up the groundwater.
Anticipation builds as you hear the spillway from a distance and begin to catch glimpses of it through the trees. The beautiful lake scene greets you as you break out of the woods and onto the dam. From there, we like to go clockwise around the lake.
The backside single track is shady and well tramped, and contains some striking flora. Right now, the irises are blooming mostly yellow and white. But with this heat, the wild roses, with their small airy foliage will soon be flowering. Their dainty pink blooms are a graceful contrast to showy garden roses. There is parking there and shady picnic areas alongside the stream coming off the lake. Fingerling fish dart around in the stream.
