Team Austin Elite is looking for 4 girls who want to compete at a high level. We will hold individual tryouts for any 7th or 8th grade girl interested in playing. We are looking for 4 girls who are committed to basketball and willing to travel over the summer months.
Players should have a can do attitude with a very hard work ethic. The 15U beat the Texas Blazers in their first game of the tournament, followed by another win against Coast-To-Coast and then finished the day with Aldine Lady Fireballs to go AE started the morning out beating Hybrid Hoops HSE in a close overtime thriller to win by 3 points and sending them into the Championship game against the host team, Houston Insiders.
The game was a very close game, Austin Elite preserved to win by 11 points to claim the championship. This tournament showed how the 15U team used teamwork to claim a victory. This was a fast-paced game that came down to the end. It was a battle, but in the end the AE17U lost a close one by 4.
Danielle Lofton, Jr from Akins, proved to be all-star caliber as she put on an all-star show. Keep an eye on Raveen Burton, Jr from Pflugerville, who displayed great speed and wizardry at point. Shoniquia will suit up with the D-1 Ambassadors Elite team this summer and will do great things with this group. Shoniquia has great ball handling passing, and shooting skills with the ability to take you off the bounce.
One of the many things I like about Shoniquia is her ability to create her own shot. She can see the floor very well and plays very well in a team environment. Team traveled to Houston this weekend to play in the Primetime Spring Shootout. We tipped of the tournament against the Houston Lady Heat. We have one goal to succeed in helping youngster develope as players and young women and men.
Since they have been producing some of the best girls and boys athletes in Chicago. Now relocated to Austin Tx, they have jump-started a basketball training program locally, with the same thoughts and training strategy.
They have begun building an elite staff of coaches and players and just like Chicago they are training some of the top athletes here in Austin Texas. Their mission as a Texas youth basketball program is to create a fun, safe, and invigorating environment. They want to teach our youth the game of basketball, maximize their skills, and build the self-esteem of each boy and girl with whom they have contact with their basketball teams. It is described as having the ability to persevere through difficult circumstances and merge without losing confidence. Basketball Mental toughness is a battle between mind, body, and soul. Your mind must be in full control you must be able to think out, outwit, and out-maneuver your opponent.
To perform to the best of your abilities you must be in tip-top shape, and your body must be a well-oiled machine.
Shooting a jump shot can be as simple as grabbing a ball and heaving it up to the basket. If it was only that easy! But shooting a basketball with proper shooting techniques takes skill, technique, and practice.
We teach techniques that make it very simple. Our goal is to help your young player make their middle or high school team. We do this through our full service training program. We helping players achieve their goals one day at a time. Ball handling is the focal point of what we teach on the court. Becoming a great player you must be a very good ball handler. This allows you to do many things on the court and to be a more effective player for your team.
Being a great ball-handler allows coaches to place kids in multiple different positions. As a coach, I always look to find great ball handlers not just point guard but at all passions, it allows me to do many things with my offense. When your child leaves our program and goes back to their school team we make sure that they understand how to dribble a ball, and how to be effective when the ball is in their hands.
The defense is one of the hardest skills in basketball, and this is because most kids prefer just to score and not actually play defense. We teach the fundamentals of defending a player. Saturday morning was exciting, we were going to play on the main court at Bramlage Coliseum, where Kansas State University plays.
I could tell the boys were excited as were our opponents, the Midwest All-Stars, who lit it up in the first half. I would venture to say they hit 9 three pointers in the first half. We were down by 24 points and it felt like we were all going to be able to make our flights out of Kansas City.
The only player who seemed to be keeping us in it was Jean Maurice Blanchard. He was dominating the middle. Grabbing every rebound and finishing at will. Also in the first half, Jonathan Heisner played significant minutes giving our short handed guards much needed rest.
Jonathan forced three turn-overs. By halftime, we had cut the deficit to 15 points. I told the boys to keep chipping away, make 10 points, then 6 points, then 2 points, then you got a game. Well, with 6 minutes to go, we were still down Defensively we go down and hold them, as Gus Leeper grabs a rebound and gets fouled with 17 seconds left. He hits both free-throws to go up I called timeout and told the boys to foul after a few seconds.
Midwest hits both free-throws and we throw the ball in-bounds to Austin Burch………. My strategy was going to back fire. However, Midwest missed two attempts at the buzzer and we won !! Next up was the tough, athletic, good shooting All Iowa Attack Red. They played a match-up zone which we had real trouble figuring out.
They started off quickly but we fought with them and were within striking distance at halftime, only down The second half was a little tougher. A combination of their fantastic play and our weariness, resulted in us never recovering from our deficit.
However, All Iowa finished 2nd in the tournament. Overall a great weekend. I want to thank some of the parents who helped keep the boys fed, hydrated, and comfortable. I also want to thank Andre Roberson for joining us this weekend.
He did a great job filling in and definitely helped us, as we were a bit short-handed. All three teams are fantastic and we look forward to the challenge.
After a few good practices, we are ready to get after it again. After an amazing performance the previous weekend, it would take our absolute best to have the same kind of success.
This was a terrific team, who has been together for four years. It was an extremely disappointing evening, but little did we know that it was going to get worse.
On our way back to the hotel, we not only found out that one of our guards broke a finger, we also had to drive through a flood, caused by a record 8 inches of rain in two hours.
Let me put it in perspective, water from 5 inches deep to 5 feet deep across the area. It took most people anywhere from 45 minutes to 1. Saturday afternoon we played the Louisiana Future. This was our opportunity to create a three-way tie for the pool. This was a game we controlled for the most part.
This was a very scrappy team full of athletes. The hit shots at the end of regulation, to go to overtime. In overtime, we controlled it again, but again they hit a shot to go to a second overtime.
In the second overtime, they prevailed for a four point win. It was a heart breaking loss. Those three together had a fantastic game. Saturday evening was our first bracket game against the San Marcos Saints, who won their pool. Fortunately, we were placed in a super pool, which still put us in the Platinum Bracket. We handled San Marcos fairly easy, with exception of the last 8 minutes, when they trimmed the lead of 25 down to We ended up winning by Later that night we played to Texas Future, out of San Antonio.
They were led by fellow Texas Ambassador Paul Garnica.
